Stephanie Bates qualified from the prestigious School of Jewellery in Birmingham in the UK, and takes her inspiration from areas undergoing Regeneration, such as Gloucester Docks and Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

As a first time exhibitor to Inhorgenta, Stephanie is looking forward to exhibiting her Jewellery as part of the British Jewellers Association (BJA) this February.

Stephanie says: “After an exciting year last year, exhibiting at JOYA Barcelona for a 2nd time, and SIERAAD Art Fair in Amsterdam for the first, I am really excited to take my collection to Inhorgenta in Munich, and showcase my collection here for the first time.”

Her ‘Changes in State’ collection was born out of a love for urban buildings, including old, graffitied warehouses and blocks of flats under demolition exposing some of their history; and the newly built, angular steel structures alongside these, which have offered interesting contrasts to use as a creative base.

The collection is made up of both one off and limited edition ‘art jewellery’ pieces, as well as classic ‘staples’ with more of a fine jewellery element, keeping her bold, geometric style throughout.

Working in a range of materials from precious metals and gemstones, to concrete, enamel paint and rubber; Stephanie combines these with both traditional skills and modern design technology to create her wearable structures.

Stephanie is inspired as much from her surroundings as she is the materials in which she works and explores. She says: “My current ‘Changes in State’ jewellery collection is of bold, geometric shapes, injected here and there with colour. It is initially inspired by architecture, and its ever change in state through destruction and development.

Experimenting with concrete, silver, gemstones, enamel paint and rubber, I find myself as inspired through material exploration, which can lead to exciting developments!”

This year Stephanie will be developing more of her Men’s collection, which will include brooches, cufflinks, rings and more. One of her most favoured pieces to date is her unisex ‘split panel’ ring, with its simplicity in clean lines and strong structure.

With Spring/Summer fast approaching, Stephanie has also turned her attention to the organic structures around us, creating her ‘Geometric floral’ collection. Available in Silver and Gold, watch out for new additions over the coming months.

To visit Stephanie at Inhorgenta, head to the ‘British Allied Trade Federation’ stand (108/209, Gang A/B). This is from the 14th-17th February 2014, taking place for the 41st time.
